25 new HC judges take oath

A total of 25 newly appointed judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court took their oaths of office on Tuesday.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at 1:40 pm at the Judges’ Lounge of the Supreme Court, where Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath. The event was conducted by Moyazzem Hossain, Registrar (Justice) of the High Court Division.

The newly sworn-in judges are: Supreme Court lawyers Md. Anwarul Islam (Shahin), Rajiu Uddin Ahmed, Faisal Hasan Arif, Md. Asif Hasan, Md. Ziaul Haque, Fatema Anwar, Abdur Rahman, Syed Hasan Jubair, and Urmi Rahman.

Additional secretary of the Law and Justice Division Md. Saiful Islam; Chattogram District and Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Islam; Law and Justice Division Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher; Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmad Bhuiyan; joint secretary of the Law and Justice Division S. M. Saiful Islam; Deputy Attorneys General Dihidar Masum Kabir, Md. Monjur Alam, Md. Lutfur Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Mahmud Hasan, A. F. M. Saiful Karim, and S. M. Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud; Habiganj District and Sessions Judge Jesmin Ara Begum; secretary of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission Murad-e-Maola Sohel; Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Zakir Hossain; and solicitor to the Ministry of Law (senior district judge) Md. Rafizul Islam.

The appointments were formalised in a gazette notification issued late Monday night by the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry, signed by Secretary Sheikh Abu Taher.

According to the notification, under Article 98 of the Constitution and in consultation with the Chief Justice, the President appointed the 25 judges as additional judges of the High Court Division for a period of two years, effective from the date of their oath-taking.
