At least 25 people were injured in a clash over a mosque loudspeaker in Bhairab port town of Kishoreganj over supremacy. Many Houses were vandalized and looted.
The incident took place at Jagannathpur,lakshmipur of Bhairab port town on Friday noon. After receiving information, Police including Army personals reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The injured persons are Al Amin, Minara Begum, Ziamin Akhter, Mohin Mia, Shipon Mia, Mamata Begum and Ajufa were admitted to Bhairab government hospital, and private clinics.
Serious Ajufa Begum has been taken to Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital.
It is learned that Jihad Mia, an employee of Makkum Molla Factory in the same area, bought a mobile phone from Jiban Mia of Dengabari in Lakshmipur, Jagannathpur last Wednesday.
The next evening, Jiban Mia took the phone back from Jihad Mia without paying. When Shipon Mia of Agarbari protested, an argument broke out.
The matter was settled on Friday morning. At this time, the two sides again argued.
At this time, Agarbari supporters announced on the microphone and asked their people to gather. Hearing this announcement, both sides got involved in a clash with axes, spears, tents, sticks, and brickbats.
At this time, people from Tori Molla’s house joined in on the side of Agarbari. 25 people from both sides were injured in the chase and counter-chase. 20 shops and houses of both sides were vandalized and looted.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairab model Police Station, Khandaker Fuhad Ruhani said that, additional police deployed in the area, and situation under control.
