$242.5m remittance received in 28 days of Dec

In the first 28 days of December, Bangladesh received remittances totaling $242.5 million, equivalent to approximately Tk 29,772 crore at an exchange rate of Tk 123 per dollar. This reflects an average daily remittance inflow of $8.64 million.

According to the latest report of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday, in the first 28 days of December, Bangladesh has received remittances amounting to $242.55 million. In comparison, remittances received during the same period of November and October were $205.24 million and $216.44 million, respectively. Compared to October and November, remittance flows have increased in the first four weeks of December.

The report mentions that in the first four weeks of December, remittances amounting to $68.96 million were sent through state-owned banks. Additionally, $9.26 million came through specialised banks, $163.14 million through private banks, and $0.69 million through foreign-sector banks.

According to the central bank’s data, $41.33 million remittances were received between December 22 and 28. From December 15 to 21, remittances amounted to $62.59 million, while between December 8 and 14, $76.49 million were received. In the first week of December, expatriates sent remittances totaling $61.65 million.

As per the data of the central bank, the highest remittance inflow in the first 28 days of December came through Islami Bank which is $33.43 million. Agrani Bank is in second place with remittances amounting to $25.43 million. Following that, Sonali Bank received $19.95 million, BRAC Bank saw $18.02 million, and Trust Bank received $18.50 million in remittances.

In July of the current fiscal year, Bangladesh received remittances totalling approximately $191 million, marking the lowest inflow in the past 10 months. However, since the interim government assumed office, remittance flows have shown a steady increase.
