A total of 234 new dengue cases were reported across Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, bringing the total number of infections this year to 6,222, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the newly infected patients, 43 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka city, while the remaining 191 cases were reported from outside the capital.
Currently, 703 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country. No new deaths were recorded during this period, keeping the official death toll at 30 for the year.
Barishal Division reported the highest number of new cases with 119 infections, followed by 32 in the districts of Dhaka Division (excluding Dhaka city), and 29 in Chattogram Division. In the capital, Dhaka South City Corporation recorded 28 new cases, while Dhaka North City Corporation logged 15.
Mymensingh Division reported one new case outside its city corporation area, while Rajshahi and Khulna Divisions, outside their respective city corporation areas, recorded five cases each.
Health experts continue to warn of a potential surge in cases with the arrival of the monsoon season, urging the public to remain vigilant and eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
Last year, Bangladesh experienced its deadliest dengue outbreak on record, with 575 deaths and more than 101,000 reported infections.
The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely and has urged local authorities to intensify mosquito control efforts in vulnerable areas.
