At least 20 people were injured in a clash between supporters of two BNP leaders at Elasin Bazar in Delduar upazila on Saturday.
The incident occurred after supporters of Jewel Sarkar held a human chain demanding cancellation of BNP nominee Robiul Awal Lavlu’s candidature for Tangail-6. As processions of Lavlu’s supporters passed the human chain, an argument broke out when a festoon held by a woman was allegedly torn, triggering a fight.
Both sides used firewood from a nearby sawmill during the clash, leaving 20 injured. The wounded were taken to local hospitals.
Delduar OC Soheb Khan said police brought the situation under control and increased patrols. UNO Johra Sultana Juthi visited the spot and said the area is now calm.
