20 employees of Bhangura Women’s College unpaid for 12yrs
Bhangura Correspondent:
At least 20 teachers and employees at the only women’s degree college in Bhangura upazila, Pabna, have been living under inhumane conditions for twelve years without receiving their salaries. The college, which started offering degree courses in BA, BSS, and BCom in 2013 with approval from the National University, has failed to provide any financial support to its staff.
Since then, 15 subject-based lecturers and 5 employees appointed for degrees have been waiting for MPO enrollment. Even after twelve years, none of them have been able to enroll in MPO. As a result, these teachers and employees are not getting salary.
Victim lecturer Zainul Abedin Jiban said that although higher secondary level teachers receive regular government salary, they have been working without salary for twelve years as they have not been enrolled in MPO. Now they are spending their days with their families in great financial difficulty. Moreover, they are not able to provide clothes for their wives and children, let alone good food, before Eid.
College Principal Md Mostafa Kamal said twenty teachers and employees are in trouble because they cannot be enrolled in MPO. Besides, since the female college students do not have salaries, it is not possible to pay salaries and allowances to those teachers from the college.
Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, president of College Governing Body said five hundred female students study here, but the government does not pay salaries and allowances to degree-level teachers. This is very sad. She demanded that the teachers and employees be given MPO status and salaries immediately, giving priority to women’s education.
