Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested the prime suspect in
the murder of housewife Suma Akhter (30) in Fatullah,
Narayanganj—two years after the crime. Her husband, Shahidullah (38),
was captured during a raid at Kutubail in Fatullah’s Katrapul area
around 2:30am on Wednesday (September 24) by PBI investigating
officer SI Md. Riaz Uddin Rony.
According to PBI Superintendent of Police Md. Mostafa Kamal Rashed,
during primary interrogation Shahidullah confessed that he killed his
wife due to family conflicts arising from an extramarital affair with his
sister-in-law, Sohana Akhter (28). He hacked Suma to death with a sharp
weapon. On Thursday (September 25), he was produced before court
and gave a confessional statement under Section 164, admitting to the
planned murder.
The incident took place late at night on November 7, 2023, at a tin-shed
house in Kutubail owned by one Anisur Rahman Basu, where
Shahidullah killed his wife before fleeing. Suma’s mother, Sajeda
Khatun, later filed a murder case with Fatullah Model Police Station. On
August 14, 2024, the case was handed over to PBI for investigation.
