Two persons were injured in a shootout in the city’s Mirpur area early Wednesday. The law enforcers arrested one person with gunshot wounds from the spot. The arrested person has been identified as Rubel Hossain alias Khorshed Alam and the identity of the other injured could not be known immediately.
Cantonment Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Atiqur Rahman said that police was patrolling the Matikata area around 5:00am when an autorickshaw stopped. Three youths from inside it opened fire. Police also opened fire and arrested Rubel with firearm from the spot.
A pistol loaded with two rounds of bullets was found with Rubel, while the other two managed to escape, he said.
 “We are looking into the matter,” the police official said.
Police suspected that the other injured in the shootout was a passer-by, he said.
