2 Russell vipers seen in Kalapara

Two Russell’s Vipers have been spotted in Kalapara upazila under Patuakhali district within a day on Tuesday (June 25) morning. After seeing the two snakes, locals called 999 and the Forest Department rescued the two snakes with the help of Animal Lovers.

Arifur Rahman Shaon , Kuakata team member of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali, said, after receiving information from the forest department, we rescued one Russell’s viper from Nalapara village.

Our members arrived to find another Russell’s viper reported as seen in Balliatali area of the the upazila. We are trying to find out and rescue that.

After rescuing the two snakes and giving first aid they would be handed over to the forest department, Animal Lovers sources added.

Abul Kalam Azad, Mohipur range officer of the forest department said, we have sent our members to both spots on the instructions of the divisional forest officer after receiving the call.

Rescue teams already taken place with the help of Animal Lovers. Efforts are underway to rescue the both and will take further action as directed by higher authority, the forest official added.

It is known that Russell Viper caught in the web of Abdul Barek’s house. A woman named Rubina of that house when fetching wood she saw the Russell viper trapped in the net in front of the door and hearing her scream, the locals came forward.

The snake was about 5 feet in length. At this time, crowd gathered to have a glimpse of the snake. Later the snake was rescued by the Kalapara team members of Animal Lovers of Patuakhali.

Resident of the same house Muhammad Sabuj said that the snake was trapped at the net of the door on the way from the house to the road. In the morning my mother seeing the snake called me.

The snake is still alive. We didn’t hit it. Animal Lovers of Patuakhali informed Kalapara team members and they came, Sabuj added.
