Two triple deck passenger launches named Dhaka bound MV Kirtankhola-10collided and Barishal boundMV Prince Awlad -10 collided head-on in Meghna River plying on the Barishal-Dhaka-Barishal route at Harina under Chandpur district due to dense fog.
Hundreds of passengers and crews carried on both triple deck launches narrowly escaped fatality of the accident happened on Sunday.
The front parts of the both launches were damaged and at least 8 passengers of the two launches were injured in the incident. Mohammad Abdur Razzak, Deputy Director and River Port Officer of BIWTA, said the two triple deck passenger launches collided head-on in the Harina section of Chandpur on the Meghna River.
However, to my knowledge, no one was seriously injured.
Under special arrangements, the passengers of Barishal bound MV Prince Awlad-10 are being brought to Barishal River Port through MV Shubhraj-9 launch. I have heard that the accident occurred due to dense fog.
However, the masters of both launches have been summoned for the incident.
We will know the details when they respond. There is no major damage, but some damage was done to the front of both launches, the port official added.
