2 held with 600 sacks of Fakirhat OMS rice

Police seized some 600 sacks of government rice (for the sale in the market) from a private go-down in Fakirhat Keramat Ali Market under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district at Wednesday night, according to a report received here.

It is learnt from the police that acting on secret information a police squad of Fakirhat Model PS conducted a raid the go-down, seized the (OMS) rice and arrested two persons on the charge of their involvement on the black-marketing charge of the rice.

The arrested thieves are Ashit Majumdar (21), son of one Prafulla Majumdar of village Kathalia under Fakirhat Upazila and Abdur Rasul (41), son of one Dabir Uddin Bhuiya hails from the village Barashia under the same Upazila (in Bagerhat district).

Ashit is the son of Prafulla Majumdar, the owner of a business establishment and the go-down known as “Majumdar Bhandar” and Abdur Rasul is an employee of the go-down.

Police told, rice was being sold at low prices across the country under government’s OMS programme to provide relief to the low-income people.
