Two persons were arrested on the charge of stealing memory cards and valuable parts from the imported re-conditioned cars and other motor vehicles (from Japan) from the jetties of Mongla Sea Port in the early hours of Thursday by the security guards of the Port. Later, the arrested thieves were sent to the Jail hajat through the court at Bagerhat on Thursday after lodging a case with Mongla PS against them, according to a report received here.
Police of Mongla PS disclosed with the reference of Mongla Port, 2 foreign commercial ships named MV Lotus Leader and MV. Malaysia Star carrying the reconditioned cars and other motor vehicles of different brands from Japan arrived at Mongla Sea Port on Tuesday (May 07) and anchored with the jetties of the Port in order to unload the cars. The imported cars were being unloaded by the importers. This unloading works of the cars and other vehicles from the ships and keeping the same in the sheds of the Port at Wednesday night by some 84 drivers appointed by an unloading company named M/S. Khulna Traders Company Ltd.
Acting on secret information that at the time of unloading works of this important and valuable cars from the ships a number of miscreants stole some memory cards and valuable parts from the imported valuable cars in order to smuggle them out to other miscreants the security guards of the Port started to search those who are engaged in unloading works of the imported and valuable cars and at one stage they caught 2 drivers along with the booties. They are Asadul Shaikh, son of one late Mahabub Shaikh and Akash Mohammad, son of one Abul Bashar hail from Town Noapar area under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district. It is learnt from the security guards of the Port that they had been engaged in the unloading works of the imported cars and other motor vehicles at the Port and they used to drive those cars from car-sheds of the Port to the show rooms of the importers for a long. Later, they were arrested and handed over to Mongla PS at Wednesday night after lodging a case with the PS by Ataur Rahman Bakul, Deputy Inspector of the security guards of the Port as the plaintiff. On the following day (Thursday) they were sent to jail hajat through the court.
KM Azizul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Mongla PS admitted the fact and told, the importers of the new and reconditioned cars worth Taka several crors hand over them (cars) to those drivers in good faith in order to unload the imported cars from the ships and reach the the same to their (importers) show rooms. But the drivers used to breach faith and damage the valuable cars after stealing the various parts of them. The Officer added, the arrested drivers were already sent to the lail hajat through the court after registered a case with PS against them.
