NN Online:

A clash between two factions of the BNP over organising Iftar gatherings in the Char area of Enayetpur Thana, Sirajganj, left at least eleven people injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, said Rawshan Yazdani, officer-in-charge (OC) of Enayetpur Police Station, on Wednesday.

Rawshan Ali, former organising secretary and UP member of Sadia Chandpur Union BNP, organised an Iftar at Corona Bazar. Meanwhile, Karim Mollah, former president of Ward-2 BNP, arranged another Iftar event at the Chandpur Government Primary School ground in the same area.

Tensions rose as both events were held in close proximity. At one point, supporters of Rawshan Ali obstructed Karim Mollah’s event, triggering the clash, said the OC.

The situation escalated into a chase-counter-chase, leaving 11 people from both groups injured.

Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, added the OC.

Additional police forces have been deployed in the area. However, no written complaints were filed by either group, the police official said.

Legal action will be taken if any complaint is submitted, he added.

Leaders from both sides accused each other of instigating the clash.
