Staff Reporter :

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has dismissed two employees for allegedly handing over ten “unserviceable” aircraft tyres to a staff member of private carrier US-Bangla Airlines without official approval.

Biman spokesperson ABM Rowshan Kabir told the media that a preliminary investigation by the security division identified the employees, who were then terminated as per company rules.

The terminated staffs are Arman Hossain, supervisor of material management, and Samsul Haque, store helper. A termination letter issued by Biman’s Administration and Human Resources Department on Thursday stated that their service ended immediately under Section 52 of the Bangladesh Biman Corporation Employees Regulations. They will receive one month’s salary in lieu of notice along with other legal benefits.

According to Biman, the tyres had already been marked for auction. On 16 August, the two employees tried to hand them over to a US-Bangla staff member in exchange for six tyres. Security personnel intercepted the act, and a general diary (GD) was filed with Airport Police Station on 18 August.

Airport Police Station OC Taslima Akhter said the tyres were recovered, so police are not pursuing a criminal case. “The GD does not mention theft. Any further action is an internal matter for the airline,” she said.

When contacted, a US-Bangla Airlines official, requesting anonymity, dismissed the allegation. “What would we do with unusable tyres? Besides, our aircraft are not the same as theirs,” the official said.
