2 APBN recovers 114 lost mobile phones

In a major crackdown on cyber-related crimes, the 2nd Armed Police Battalion (2 APBN) of Bangladesh Police has successfully recovered 114 lost mobile phones, Tk 1.92 lakh mistakenly transferred to mobile banking accounts, and passwords to three hacked Facebook IDs.
The operation was carried out under the overall guidance of Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Qutub Uddin. The Cyber Crime Cell of 2 APBN, in coordination with the LIC/CIA branch in Uttara, Dhaka, conducted the raid across various districts and upazilas using data collected from digital communication platforms such as Facebook, Messenger, email, WhatsApp, and the national emergency service “999.”
The team compiled General Diary (GD) reports filed by victims of mobile phone theft or loss and tracked down the devices and financial transactions using advanced digital forensics.
According to official sources, the value of the recovered mobile phones is approximately Tk 34,20,000. In addition, Tk 1,92,320 that had been mistakenly transferred to six bKash and Nagad accounts was also retrieved. Furthermore, passwords to three hacked Facebook IDs were successfully recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
In a handover ceremony held at the 2 APBN Headquarters in Muktagachha, Mymensingh, Additional DIG Md Qutub Uddin formally returned the recovered items to their respective owners. Also present at the event were Additional Superintendent of Police Subhashish Dhar, Police Inspector (Unarmed) in charge of the Cyber Crime Branch, and other members of the Cyber Crime Cell and Operations and Intelligence Branch.
Authorities praised the coordinated effort and reaffirmed their commitment to tackling digital and financial fraud. Police have urged citizens to report such incidents promptly using official channels, including the national emergency hotline 999.
