Chattagram Port is the main sea port of Bangladesh. About 92% of Bangladesh’s total general goods import-export and about 98% of containerized goods import-export are handled through Chattagram Port. In the first 10 months (January-October) of the 2025 calendar year, 28,49,542 TEUs containers, 11,50,67,200 metric tons of cargo and 3552 ships were handled at Chattagram Port.
There was a growth of 4.87% in container handling, 12.64% in cargo handling and 10.97% in ship handling. During that period, 1,32,328 TEUs containers, 1,29,08,174 metric tons of cargo and 351 ships were handled more than the same period of the previous year. Similarly, in the first 04 months (July-October) of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, 12,13,805 TEUs containers, 4,52,82,907 metric tons of cargo and 1,422 ships were handled. There was a growth of 10.15% in container handling, 15.76% in cargo handling and 11.00% in ship handling. During that period, 1,11,888 TEUs containers, 61,66,405 metric tons of cargo and 141 ships were handled more than the same period of the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, 4,68,871 TEUs containers and 253 ships were handled at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) operated by Chattagram Dry-dock Limited in the first 04 months (July-October) of the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Container handling has grown by 15.50% and ship handling by 19.35%. During this period, 62,919 TEUs containers and 41 ships have been handled more than the same period of the previous fiscal year. The waiting time of ships at Chattagram Port has decreased compared to the previous period.
The waiting time of ships was zero for 09 days in September/2025, 18 days in October/2025 and 19 days in November/2025. Currently, ships arriving at the port are getting On Arrival berths. This allows importers and exporters to take delivery of imported goods quickly and ship the goods to be exported on time. The overall impact of which has reduced the Port Lead Time. This will significantly reduce the price of goods at the consumer level.
The overall dynamics of exports will further increase. Mainly due to the addition of Modern Cargo-Container Handling Equipment’s, expansion of yard capacity, use of information technology and above all due to the relentless efforts of the officers and employees of Chattagram Port, workers and continuous cooperation of port users at various levels, the port’s handling activities have continued to grow.
It is worth noting that recently a delegation of Maersk Shipping Line arrived in Chattagram from Singapore.
They expressed deep satisfaction and gratitude for the positive steps taken in port management, especially the reduction of ship waiting time and the improvement of operational performance and continuous progress in service quality of various terminals including NCT.
Such success of the port will brighten the image of Chattagram Port among the countrymen and will open new horizons in port management in the future.
