Nilphamari Correspondent :
At last, Nilphamari has been chosen as the site for a modern 1,000-bed hospital to be built as a gift from the Government of China.
The hospital will be constructed on approximately 25.5 acres of land at the Darwani Textile Field in Charai Khola Union under Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has already issued a notice to prepare the master plan and cost estimation for the hospital’s construction.
The notice, signed by Deputy Secretary Fatema Tuz Johora Thakur on October 30, has been sent to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works as an “urgent matter.”
Although there had been long-running debates over where to establish the Chinese-funded hospital, the ministry’s latest notice has sparked excitement among the people of Nilphamari.
AHM Saifullah Rubel, Member Secretary of the Nilphamari District BNP and BNP-nominated candidate for Nilphamari-2 constituency, said, “The establishment of this hospital will open a new chapter in healthcare for the region.
People will no longer need to go abroad for advanced treatment, and it will also have a positive impact on our local economy.” Welcoming the government’s decision, Advocate Al Faruq Abdul Latif, Assistant Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Nilphamari and Scales (Dari-Palla) symbol candidate for Nilphamari Sadar constituency, said, “The people of Nilphamari are proud today. This hospital will bring revolutionary changes to the district’s healthcare sector.”
He added, “The Textile Field is an ideal location in terms of communication, infrastructure, and accessibility. It will further accelerate the district’s social and economic development.”
Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, Md. Sakiuzzaman, confirmed, “We have received the official notice and have already started the digital survey work.”
Nilphamari Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nayiruzzaman said, “The government owns about 60 acres of land in the Textile Field area. Around 25 acres have been proposed for allocation to the Ministry for this project. The cost estimation and design work are now in progress.”
He further stated, “If everything goes smoothly, the construction of this modern hospital a generous gift from the Chinese government will begin in Nilphamari very soon.”
Notably, although several districts including Rangpur had campaigned to host the hospital, the Ministry of Health has finally selected Nilphamari as the chosen site.
