18th Nat’l Wushu Championship kicks off today

The 18th National Wushu championship 2025, one of the most prestigious events in Bangladesh’s martial arts calendar, commences today at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.

Organised by the Bangladesh Wushu Federation, the five-day-long Championship will continue until 27th July.

The official inauguration ceremony will take place tomorrow, Thursday, at 11:00 AM, at the same venue.

Aminul Islam, NDC, Secretary of the National Sports Council, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The ceremony will be presided over by Major General A S M Ridwanur Rahman, AWC, AFWC, PSC, G and President of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation.

This year’s championship sees participation from 28 teams, including representatives from the Army, Police, Ansar & VDP, BKSP, and other institutional and divisional contingents. A total of 350 athletes will vie for honours across 27 gold medal events, comprising 19 sanda fighting categories (10 men’s and 9 women’s) and 8 taolu events (4 men’s and 4 women’s). Altogether, 108 medals, gold, silver, and bronze, will be awarded throughout the tournament.

As a special highlight, each of the 27 gold medalists will receive electronic appliances as gifts from the event sponsor PRAN Group.

The champion team in the group events will be awarded a trophy, while all participants will be given official t-shirts and certificates of participation as tokens of recognition.

The Federation has made full arrangements for accommodation and meals for all athletes and officials attending the tournament.
