A disappointing attendance was seen at the academics’ discussion organized on the 17th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) in Rangpur.
The pandals were empty except for a handful of teachers at the discussion.
Earlier, the 17th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University (BRU) was observed on Sunday.
The speakers discussed the founding history of the university, the improvement of the quality of higher education and the role of the university in research, but the absence of ordinary students was noticeable to everyone on Sunday.
In addition, the university officials and employees were not present at the same program.
On the other hand, the cultural program held in the evening was a completely different picture. There was a crowd of spectators all over the university’s Independence Memorial grounds.
There was no place to set foot in the pandals due to the crowd of university students and locals. The entire campus became festive to the tune of songs.
On one side, academics’ discussion in an empty pandals, on the other side, a crowd overflowing at the cultural program.
The day was spent with these two contrasting images on the anniversary of the founding of Berobi.
When asked about such aversion of the students, student advisor Dr. Ilias Pramanik said, students find seminars boring and enjoy singing. But there is nothing to learn on the journey.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali said, I am sad today. I have ended the program with sadness. Today is the university day.
Why are so many chairs empty? Even though the students have come, why are not all the teachers here on Sunday.
This is the misery of Berobi. We want to build the university with all the teachers, students, officials and employees of the university. Is this an example of that?
It is worth noting that the former advisor to the caretaker government, economist Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, and the convener of the Rangpur University Implementation Coordination Council, academician Professor Dr. Rezaul Haque, founding Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Professor Dr. M Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Kurigram Agricultural University Professor Dr. Md. Rashedul Islam and others.
