City Desk :
The process of reinstating police personnel who were dismissed during the tenure of the Awami League government but later won their appeals in the tribunal has begun.
According to a press release issued by the Police Headquarters on Saturday, a total of 1,522 reinstatement applications have been received, reports BSS.
Among the applicants, there are 1,025 constables, 79 nayeks, 180 ASIs/ATASIs, 200 SIs/sergeants/TSIs, 10 inspectors, and 28 non-police members.
To review these applications, a committee led by a DIG was formed in August last year, which has now submitted its report along with recommendations.
Based on this, the Police Headquarters is taking steps to reinstate those who were victorious in the appeal tribunal.
However, the press release clarified that those who did not file a departmental appeal against their dismissal could not be considered for reinstatement due to legal constraints.
Similarly, individuals who neither filed a case in the Administrative Tribunal against their dismissal nor were involved in ethical misconduct, financial corruption, or criminal charges were also excluded from reinstatement for legal reasons.
The statement further emphasized that the Police Headquarters is sincerely working to ensure justice for the dismissed officers.
Previously, on January 29, at around 12:15pm, dismissed police personnel staged a sit-in in front of the Police Headquarters, demanding reinstatement through an executive order.
They organized this demonstration to call for the reinstatement of all police members who, they claim, were unlawfully dismissed under the previous government.
