Khulna Correspondent :

More than 150 risky buildings in various parts of Khulna district, including the metropolis, can cause major accidents at any time.

The city’s residents are increasingly concerned that these buildings have not been demolished even in the past decade.

The biggest risk in Barabazar: The largest commercial center of Khulna, Barabazar, has the most abandoned and fragile buildings.

Apart from this, there are countless risky structures in the old district jail building, the ‘ghost house’ inside the Tutpara Ansar camp, Benibabu Road, Gaganbabu Road, Basupara, Dolkhola, Tutpara, Khalishpur Sonali Bank staff quarters, Khulna Power Plant staff quarters, Fulbari Gate and Mirerdanga Chest Hospital area.

Building owners are not budging despite instructions: KCC, district administration and KDA have identified at least 24 buildings and issued notices to the owners to demolish them, but the owners are not budging in any way.

Panic spreads whenever an earthquake strikes, and then everything returns to normal a few days later-this has been going on for years.

Fear of terrible danger in densely populated cities: There are about 75,000 holdings in Khulna metropolis in an area of just 17.62 square miles. More than 1.7 million people live here.

Although there was no visible damage in the recent 5.7-magnitude earthquake, the panic has increased with more than 150 risky buildings.
