A total of 142 bags of rice were stolen from a warehouse in Baliadighi area of Sonamasjid, Chapainawabganj. On Monday afternoon, with the help of local residents, police conducted a raid in the Baliadighi-Kolonipara area and recovered 44 bags of the stolen rice.
The local police, with assistance from the community, arrested Abed Ali (34), son of Maimul, and Jasim (35), son of Dukhu Mall, in connection with the theft and handed them over to the authorities.According to locals, about a month ago, transport businessman Abdus Salam rented a warehouse in Talatola Bazar of Shahabajpur Union in Sonamasjid. He stored 2,800 bags of imported rice from Messrs Kader Super Rice Mill in that warehouse.
On October 4, he noticed that 142 bags of rice were missing from the warehouse.On Monday afternoon, with support from the locals, Shibganj police carried out a raid in the Baliadighi-Kolonipara area. During the operation, they recovered 44 bags of rice from the homes of Kawyum, Abdul Hakim, Sofiqul, Jamal, and Abed Ali. Abed Ali and Jasim were caught by local residents and handed over to the police for their alleged involvement in the theft.
SI Kabir Hossain of Shibganj Police Station said that victim Abdus Salam filed a case at the police station regarding the incident. The two arrested individuals will be interrogated and sent to court. Police are actively working to recover the remaining stolen rice.
