Here is the full text of Mirza Fakhrul’s Facebook status:
By the grace of Almighty Allah, the BNP has nominated me for Thakurgaon-1 constituency!
I express my deepest gratitude and thanks to Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and all party leaders and members. I sincerely thank all the activists who have been with me throughout my life!
Those of us who have spent our entire lives in politics, who have gone to jail – each of us has our own story!
Many people don’t know those stories.
When I decided in 1987 to return to politics, my two daughters were very young, studying in Dhaka.
My wife was also quite young at that time. She was initially shocked – she realized the kind of uncertain and perilous life we were stepping into.
It was she who held my daughters’ hands and took them to school and to the doctor.
I still remember – my elder daughter had to undergo surgery once, and I spent the entire night in a car on my way to Dhaka, just to be by her side!
I will share more of these stories someday, if Allah wills.
Thousands of our leaders and activists have such stories to tell!
This election might be my last election!
Those who did not receive nominations – have faith, Insha’Allah the party will assign you with proper responsibilities and due honor!
Please pray for me, and for every leader and activist of our party!
Together, we will stand by you and work for you, Insha’Allah!
The BNP has the ability to move the country forward with dignity, Insha’Allah!
Stay with us. Bangladesh Zindabad!
