Police have arrested 13 individuals in connection with an armed robbery that took place near the Central Medical Depot in the Tejgaon Industrial Area of Dhaka and recover nearly Tk 1.64 crore in foreign currencies.
According to the Detective Branch (DB), the robbery occurred around 6:30 PM on July 1.
A group of 10 to 12 masked and armed assailants intercepted a private car belonging to MM Ayat Tours and Travels and made off with a suitcase containing 491,500 Saudi Riyals, 400 Omani Riyals, 30 Kuwaiti Dinars, and 12,350 Dirhams.
In Bangladeshi currency, the looted amount is estimated at Tk 1.64 crore.
Initial investigation and analysis of CCTV footage and digital evidence led to the arrest of Md Tuhin (28), an employee of the travel agency. His confession revealed that the robbery was an inside job, meticulously planned in advance.
