124,808 prisoners get legal aid by NLASO

The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has provided legal aid to 1,24,808 prisoners at government expenses.

This information has been revealed in a report published in the website of NLASO.

This report provides detailed information on legal assistance provided by NLASO from 2009 to February 2025.

Initially, this service of the National Legal Aid Services Organization was launched at the district level. But, later, this service was introduced in the Supreme Court, the Workers’ Legal Aid Cell in Dhaka and Chattogram, and prisons across the country.

The report said a total of 11,82,767 beneficiaries have received legal aid at government expense from 2009 to February 2025. Among the beneficiaries, 1,24,808 are incarcerated.

Besides, 28,761 people got services through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 9,39,831 people through the 64 district legal aid offices, 29,117 people through the Dhaka and Chittagong Workers’ Legal Aid Cells, and 1,85,058 people through the National Helpline Call Center (toll-free-‘16430’).

This service has been provided at government expense under the ‘Legal Aid Act’ with the aim of providing legal aid to financially indigent and incompetent people seeking justice in the country.

The activities of the National Legal Aid Services Organization are carried out under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
