Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over reports that India’s Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed 123 individuals across the border into Bangladesh, claiming they are Bangladeshi nationals.

National Security Adviser and Chief Adviser’s Special Representative on the Rohingya Issue and Priority Matters, Khalilur Rahman, stated on Wednesday that the government has officially raised the matter with New Delhi.

“We are receiving reports that individuals are being pushed in from the Indian side. If any of them are Bangladeshi citizens, our authorities should be informed through official channels. Such actions are unacceptable,” Khalilur, a former diplomat, told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the Indian authorities regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baharul Islam, has instructed the superintendents of police (SPs) in border districts to remain vigilant and ensure that no criminals or militants are allowed to cross into the country amid rising regional tensions between India and Pakistan.

The directive was disclosed by Assistant Inspector General (Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar during a media briefing on Wednesday. IGP Baharul had attended the “Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition and IGP Cup-2024” held at the Bangladesh Sports Federation in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
