A total of 12 COVID-19 cases were reported in Chattogram and Khulna on Tuesday, health department data showed.
As per the data, 10 more COVID-19 cases were reported in Chattogram after testing 180 samples in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
With these newly identified cases, the total number of infections in the port city has risen to 38 over the past 11 days, said Dr. Jahangir Alam, Civil Surgeon of Chattogram.
He noted that COVID-19 tests are being conducted at six laboratories, including the RT-PCR lab at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Currently, 33 patients are receiving treatment at designated hospitals across the city.
Dr. Alam urged people from all walks of life to avoid crowded places and wear masks as precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, two women tested positive for COVID-19 at two separate government hospitals in Khulna on Tuesday.
Dr. Khan Ahmed Ishtiaq, Focal Person of the Corona Unit at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), said the infections were confirmed following tests conducted separately at KMCH and Khulna General Hospital.
He mentioned that Khulna had seen no significant COVID-19 cases since 2023, making these the first detections in the district in a long time.
Since KMCH began COVID-19 testing on March 23, 2020, the hospital has treated approximately 13,000 patients, with over 1,000 deaths recorded.
Separately, the Health Department earlier confirmed 25 new COVID-19 cases across the country in the 24-hour period between 8:00 am Sunday and 8:00 am Monday.
During this time, 231 samples were tested, with a positivity rate of 10.82 percent.
One new COVID-related death was also reported in that period, raising the nationwide death toll this year to five.
Since the pandemic began in 2020, the country’s official COVID-19 death toll has reached 29,504.
