1,184 centres ‘risky’

The law enforcing agencies have identified 1,184 polling centres out of 3,403 in 233 municipalities as ‘risky’ where Municipal elections will be held today (Wednesday).
According to the report, Dhaka Division has 348 risky polling centres out of 991, Rangpur Division 118 out of 304, Khulna 195 out of 471, Sylhet 45 out of 189, Barisal 63 out of 167 and Chittagong Division has 169 risky polling centres out of 480.
The report sent to the Election Commission by the police department also said, there is possibility of chaos in different polling centres to occupy booths.
The activists of Awami League, BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatiya Party may create unrest to stop the minority people from going to the polling centres.
Attempt may be taken to make the environment unstable and the election questionable. Several political parties may create disorder in different polling centres for getting majority votes.
Clashes may take place between the supporters of the official Awami League candidates and those of rebel candidates, says the report.
The police department suggested deployment of full-time mobile court in the areas where minority people live.
Election Commissioner Shah Newaz said, the Commission has been taking action against the influential for violation of electoral code of conduct.
He said, ” There is no more time to warn the influential. From now on, direct action will be taken.”
 “We’ve asked the Returning Officers to go for direct action for violation of Code of Conduct,” he said.
