A total of 11 Bangladesh nationals returned to the country after serving various prison terms for illegal entry into India.

They were brought back through the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost in Brahmanbaria on Thursday afternoon.

At the initiative of the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Tripura, and through the foreign and home ministries of both countries, they were handed over to their family members. Among the returnees was one woman.

This woman had left behind her five-year-old child and entered India nine months ago in search of work, where she was detained by Indian law enforcement authorities.

The others were also arrested in India for the same reason, as they informed the media upon their return.

Around 2pm, Md. Almas Hossain, Head of Chancery of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura, and commission official Omar Sharif brought the 11 individuals to the Akhaura-Agartala Immigration Checkpost border.

They were handed over to Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) GM Rashedul Islam. The 11 returning Bangladeshis include: Farzana Ahmed Nipa from Debidwar upazila in Cumilla, Ibrahim Mojumder from Parshuram upazila in Feni, Helal Jamaddar from Sarankhola in Bagerhat, Akramul Islam Onik from Bagha upazila in Rajshahi, Kabir Sheikh, Ruhul Sheikh, Ashraful Haque, Sumon Rana, Baharul Islam, Mamun Ali, and Ruhul Amin-all from Chapainawabganj.

At the time, officials present included Abdus Sattar, Officer-in-Charge of the Akhaura International Immigration Checkpost, Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Commander of the BGB Company at Akhaura Land Port, along with immigration officers from India’s Border Security Force (BSF) and Bangladesh’s Border Guard (BGB). Farzana Ahmed Nipa, one of the returnees from India, said, “I went to India after listening to a few of my friends there. The day after I arrived, the police arrested me. I’ve returned home after nearly eight months. It was a very difficult time without my family. I hope no one else goes to India illegally like I did.”

Md Belal Jamaddar, brother of returnee Helal Jamaddar, told the media, “My brother Helal left home eight months ago in search of work. Later, we came to know that he had been detained in India.
