11-member media reform commission formed

The government has formed an 11-member Media Reform Commission, appointing senior journalist Kamal Ahmed as its chair.

The commission has been tasked with proposing necessary reforms to make the media independent, robust, and objective. The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing disclosed this information on Monday.

The other members of the commission include Dhaka University’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Gitiara Nasrin, The Financial Express Editor and representative of the Editors’ Council Shamsul Haque Zahid, Secretary of the Newspaper Owners’ Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) Akhtar Hossain Khan, former General Secretary of the National Press Club Syed Abdal Ahmed, Executive Officer of Jamuna Television and trustee of the Broadcast Journalist Centre Fahim Ahmed, Media Support Network journalist and convener Jimmy Amir, The Daily Star’s Bogura district correspondent Mostafa Sabuj, The Business Standard Deputy Editor Titu Dutta Gupta, and student representative Abdullah Al Mamun.

According to its terms of reference, the commission will begin its work immediately and, after considering all relevant opinions, submit its report to the Chief Advisor of the interim government within 90 days.
