11 killed in Mymensingh road mishaps

At least 11 people lost their lives in two separate road accidents in Mymensingh on Friday evening, casting a pall of grief over the region just days after the Eid holidays.
The fatal incidents occurred on the Mymensingh-Haluaghat highway in Fulpur Upazila and Tarakanda Upazila.
The first and deadliest accident took place around 8:30 PM in the Indirapar area of Fulpur municipality.
A Dhaka-bound passenger bus operated by Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan collided head-on with a diesel-run Mahindra van traveling from Fulpur to Haluaghat.
Five people, including four men and one woman, were killed on the spot. The victims are the passengers of the Mahindra. Three more succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the van was fully loaded with passengers when the speeding bus, coming from the opposite direction, crashed into it directly. The impact was so severe that several passengers were thrown from the vehicle.
The injured were rushed to Fulpur Upazila Health Complex and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where three more victims died during treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Farid Mia (38), Johor Ali (70), Shamsuddin (65), Hasina Khatun (50), and Azim Uddin (35), among others.
Following the accident, enraged locals set fire to the bus, temporarily halting traffic on the highway.
Police, army personnel, local administration, and fire service officials arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.
In a separate incident around 6:00 PM the same evening, three more people died when a CNG-run auto-tempo collided head-on with an ambulance in Ramchandrapur area of Tarakanda upazila.
The victims were identified as Jobeda Khatun (85), Rakibul Hasan (15), and Mohammad Alam (35).
Police said investigations into both accidents are ongoing, and support will be extended to the families of the victims. The tragic events have cast a deep shadow of mourning over the region.
