Chattogram Bureau :
The port authority is introducing 100 per cent online delivery order (DO) system for releasing goods from Chittagong port.
The system was piloted
by six shipping lines last December; After that, it was opened for everyone, but from November 1, the system was made mandatory and launched in full swing. Before this, in case of clearance of goods from the port, the traditional method had to go directly with documents and take application and permission.
The port authorities hope that the introduction of the new system will reduce the suffering.
Along with this, clearance of goods from the port with forged signatures and forgery of documents will be stopped; at the same time, time will also be saved to obtain clearance of goods. Port users call this initiative a breakthrough initiative to move towards a modern automated port.
Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association Vice President Khairul Alam Sujan said, “This is a landmark step of Chattogram Port in moving towards digital port. Now there is no need to sit for Friday closing day or office hours. C&F agents can apply for delivery orders even at night. This will save a lot of time and it will be easy to prevent the release of goods from the port by fraud.”
He said that of course, the shipping agents still have to pay the fees directly. That method will surely be digital.
