10 state owned banks to get new MDs

The Ministry of Finance has proposed new managing directors (MDs) for 10 state-owned banks as part of ongoing banking sector reforms, officials announced on Monday.

According to the approved summary, Shawkat Ali Khan, currently the MD of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, has been recommended for the position of MD at Sonali Bank. Mojibur Rahman, MD of Probashi Kallyan Bank, is proposed as the MD of Janata Bank, while Anwarul Islam, former deputy MD of Janata Bank, is recommended for Agrani Bank.

Other proposals include Md Ahmed Rahim, DMD of Rajshahi Agricultural Development Bank, as the MD and CEO of Rupali Bank, and Md Jasim Uddin, former DMD of Janata Bank, as the MD and CEO of Bangladesh Development Bank. Md Kamruzzaman, also a former DMD of Janata Bank, has been recommended for the position of MD and CEO of Basic Bank.

Additionally, the Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance issued instructions for appointing MDs in four state-owned specialized banks.

Sonali Bank Deputy MD Sanchita Binte Ali has been recommended as the MD of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, and Bangladesh Krishi Bank Deputy MD Chanu Gopal Ghosh has been proposed as the MD of Probashi Kallyan Bank. Mofazzal Hossain, DMD of Sonali Bank, is recommended as the MD of Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank, while Salma Banu, DMD of Bangladesh Krishi Bank, has been appointed as the MD of Palli Sanchay Bank.

The interim government had recently removed the MDs of six state-owned banks and four specialized banks, leaving these key positions vacant for over a month. This move is part of a broader effort to revamp the banking sector.
