A contractor in Sylhet has filed a case against an LGED Upazila engineer named Md. Rafiqul Islam, alleging financial irregularities, abuse of power and defamation, seeking compensation of Tk 10 crore.
Alhaj Md Ismail Ali Ashiq, owner of Jaintapur-based contracting company M/s Shahan Enterprises, filed the case in the Sylhet Joint District Judge 1st Court on Wednesday.
The accused Rafiqul Islam is currently working as an engineer of LGED in Ajmiriganj upazila of Habiganj.
The case has been filed on various charges including withholding the bill for the construction project of Sittingbari Government Primary School while he was working in Gowainghat, Sylhet, demanding and extorting bribes and attempting to cash the bank guarantee without paying the project bill even after the work was completed. The case accuses LGED engineer Rafiqul of accepting a bribe of 6 lakh taka.
He also attempted to cash the bank guarantee without paying the project bill after the work was completed. In addition, the case highlights various misdeeds and corruption of the then LGED engineer of Gowainghat upazila under the umbrella of Minister Imran during the previous Awami League era.
