One person was killed and at least 35 others were injured in a violent clash between two rival factions of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, in Kishoreganj’s Boulai area on Friday afternoon. Several houses were also vandalized and set on fire during the incident.

The deceased was identified as Imranul Haque Himel (35), a local Jubo Dal leader and son of Habiur Rahman of the Mulstal area in Kishoreganj Sadar.

Law enforcement agencies, including the army and police, were deployed to bring the situation under control. Police have detained eight people in connection with the incident, confirmed Abdullah-al-Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Local sources said there had been a long-standing conflict between two factions of Jubo Dal-one led by Ali Abbas Rajan, information secretary of the district unit, and the other by Emdadul Haque, joint convener of Sadar upazila Jubo Dal-over establishing dominance in the area.

The clash erupted in the Rajkunti area near Boulai Bazar, where both sides reportedly used sharp weapons and firearms. Following the violence, supporters of the deceased leader carried out retaliatory attacks, vandalizing and setting fire to several houses. Fire service officials rushed to the scene but faced obstruction from mobs on the road.

The injured were taken to local government hospitals and private clinics for treatment.
