Md Azahar Khan is country’s one of the leading eco-friendly industrialists. He is the Chairman of Mithela Textile Industries Limited, a leading export oriented company.
In an interview with The New Nation, Md Azahar Khan expressed anxiety over the current gas crisis.
“Ensuring one dollar’s gas to export oriented industries could ensure one hundred dollar of foreign currency earning. In such I requested the government to ensure gas supply to those industries for secure the reserve from become fall sharply,” Azahar Khan said.
He also suggested the government not to stop giving incentives to exporters for the very same reason.
Mithela Textile attained reputation across the globe as an environment friendly industry.
Mithela Textiles achieved the LEED Platinum Certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2018. The certificate is issued for non-emission of toxic substances.
The textile and dyeing sector is one of the most environment polluting sectors in the world.
This sector is considered in red category or highest hazardous category in terms of environmental pollution.
In such situation, Mithela Textile Industries Limited has proved itself completely contrary to the conventional idea.
It is the world’s first eco-friendly platinum green factory in woven textile dyeing.
In an interview with The New Nation Azahar Khan said that the LEED platinum woven textile dyeing factory was established by the members of the Khan family, one of the oldest industrialists of Duptara in Araihazar upazila of Narayanganj near to the capital Dhaka.
The foundation stone of the export-oriented Mithela Group’s factory was laid in 2015 and it started full production in 2019. The factory has been set up within 36 bighas of land.
About 50 percent of its land is vacant, which has been afforested.
There is a huge pond with an area of three bighas of land. The rain water after the shed also falls directly into the pond.
The pure water of the pond is used for gardening and fire fighting.
The factory building has been built on the remaining space leaving enough open space.
It has maximum and modern security system for the workers. Mithela Textile Industry Ltd. is the first and only textile factory in the world to be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) with the Best Green Status Platinum Category Woven Fabrics Dyeing, the fifth best green category facility in the world so far. Mithela Textiles was established with an aim of social responsibility and providing a better environment to the next generation.
Mithela Textile Industries Limited participated in the ‘Made in Bangladesh Week-2022’ held in the capital.
Azahar Khan said that the main objective of Made in Bangladesh Week was branding Bangladesh and highlighting the capabilities of country’s changing apparel sector in front of the buyers and made the world aware of the innovation in the apparel industry and positive aspects of the industry to the international community.
During the week-long event, people from home and abroad, especially international buyers and partners attended the event. About 550 foreign rice husk and buyer representatives from the apparel sector came to Dhaka to participate in the mega event.
Apart from this, there were several other events including a separate event called Made in Bangladesh Photography Awards which caught attention to the world.
Meanwhile, Mithela Textile Industries Limited, won the Bangabandhu Green Factory Award for not harming the environment. The award was given in a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
