The Forum Panel has secured a sweeping victory in the biennial election of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
Led by Mahmud Hasan Khan (Babu), the Forum Panel won 31 out of 35 director posts, as per the final results announced by by the election commission on Saturday night.
Besides, Sammilito Parishad Panel bagged four director posts in the election, according to the final results of the polls announced The BGMEA election was held simultaneously in both Dhaka and Chattogram centres on Saturday.
Of the total 31 director posts won by the Forum panel, some 25 were in Dhaka while six were in Chittagong. Of the four director posts won by the Sammilito Parishad panel, one was in Dhaka and three in Chattogram.
In the BGMEA election, the total number of director posts was 35, which includes 26 in the Dhaka region and 9 in the Chattogram region.
Yesterday, the polls began at 8:00 am and continued until 5:00 pm without any break.
In Dhaka, the polls took place at the Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel, where 1528 out of a total 1631 votes were cast. However, some 103 votes became invalid.
At the Chattogram centre, some 248 out of 303 votes were cast while six votes were detected as invalid.
The last BGMEA election was held in March last year, but its president, SM Mannan Kochi, then resigned in October following the fall of the Hasina government in August.
Last October, the government appointed Md Anwar Hossain as the BGMEA administrator to oversee the election.
